Find Answers and Relief with NeuroVisual Medicine
If you’ve been struggling with headaches, dizziness, eye strain, or unexplained vision problems, you may be experiencing binocular vision dysfunction (BVD).
NeuroVisual medicine is a highly specialized area of eye care that focuses on BVD, a condition where the eyes struggle to work together as a team. This misalignment can be so subtle that it is often missed in routine eye exams, yet it can cause significant symptoms that affect daily life.
Using diagnostic techniques and custom treatments, such as microprism lenses, Neurolens technology, and neuro-optometric rehabilitation, we can help patients find lasting relief.
If you’re ready to understand what has been causing your symptoms, North Shore Eye is here to help. Contact us to schedule your consultation today.
Symptoms of Binocular Vision Dysfunction
BVD can cause a wide range of symptoms, including:
- Frequent headaches or migraines
- Dizziness or balance issues
- Eye strain or fatigue
- Anxiety in large spaces or while driving
- Difficulty with reading or focusing
- Motion sickness
If you’ve been to multiple providers without clear answers, BVD may be the underlying cause.

What Causes BVD?
BVD can be present from birth, develop after a concussion or head injury, or occur due to neurological conditions. It is often misdiagnosed as migraines, anxiety disorders, ADHD, or inner ear problems.
Because traditional eye exams do not typically check for subtle eye misalignments, BVD can go undetected for years.
A Different Kind
of Eye Exam
Our NeuroVisual medicine exam is not a standard vision test. This specialty evaluation takes about 60–90 minutes and is designed to detect even the smallest misalignments in your eyes.
During the exam, Dr. Ross will:
- Review your medical and symptom history in detail
- Perform specialized testing for eye alignment and visual coordination
- Explain your results in clear, compassionate language
- Recommend a treatment plan tailored to your needs
If BVD is detected, we may prescribe custom microprism lenses that realign the images your eyes send to your brain.
Customized Lenses for Lasting Relief
The most common and effective treatment for BVD is a custom prescription lens with precise adjustments, called microprism. These lenses gently realign your vision, reducing strain and restoring comfort.
At North Shore Eye, we are also working toward developing our own branded lens to provide an even more personalized solution for our patients. Many patients notice improvements within hours or days of wearing their lenses!
Neurolens: Relief for Digital Eye Strain and More
If you spend a lot of time on computers or digital devices, even a small eye misalignment can trigger headaches, eye strain, neck tension, and fatigue.
Neurolenses use contoured prism technology to reduce pressure on the trigeminal nerve, which can significantly improve comfort.
Patients often experience dramatic relief within weeks, and lenses can be customized with or without a prescription. The process is quick, painless, and can be life-changing for those with digital vision syndrome or chronic eye strain.
Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation
For patients recovering from traumatic brain injury, concussion, or stroke, Neuro-Optometric Rehab helps restore visual processing and coordination. We partner with rehabilitation centers and medical teams to support your recovery using tools such as:
- Compensatory or yoked prisms
- Binasal occlusion for visual motion sensitivity
- Tinted lenses for light sensitivity
- Vision therapy to rebuild visual skills
These treatments can improve balance, reduce dizziness, and make daily activities easier and more comfortable.
Take the First Step: Find Out if You Have BVD
If you have been dealing with headaches, dizziness, anxiety, or difficulty reading, you may be living with binocular vision dysfunction and not even know it. The first step toward relief is understanding whether your symptoms could be related to eye misalignment.

What Patients Are Saying
My daughter came in with complaints of cloudy vision. Every person we encountered was friendly and professional. I could tell my daughter was comfortable during every test throughout her visit. Dr. assured both of us that her complaint was nothing to worry about!
Relieved and happy with our experience here!

As a new patient, I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect.
My previous experiences had been with large chain eye centers and those experiences were hit or miss. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at North Shore Eye. They were friendly and thorough with their examinations and Dr. Ross was extremely
knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend!

responses and overall very friendly environment.

The most up to date equipment with the most personal care from any optometrist I’ve ever gotten. I would recommend him to anybody who has a complex prescription and hasn’t had good luck with other doctors.
Geoff R.
Dr. Ross and staff were very helpful. When I had a terrible eye infection, Dr. Ross evaluated my eye, prescribed me the proper meds, and scheduled a follow-up to make sure everything was going as expected. Overall, I was very impressed with the level of care and would recommend North Shore to anyone who needs to see an optometrist.
