How We Handle Insurance
North Shore Eye is a medical eye care clinic, which means we bill through your medical insurance, not vision plans. This allows us to prioritize your eye health and provide comprehensive care for medical eye conditions, rather than limiting services to basic vision benefits.
We accept most major medical insurance providers, including but not limited to:
- Blue Cross Clue Shield (BCBS)
- Humana
- Medicare
- Medicare Advantage Plans
- UMR
- UnitedHealthcare
- And many more!
Call us to find out if we are a provider for your medical plan.
We are not in-network with any vision plans such as VSP, EyeMed, or Davis Vision. We also do not participate in state insurance programs such as Medicaid, BadgerCare, or ForwardHealth. If your vision plan offers out-of-network reimbursement, we’re happy to help you submit paperwork after your visit. If you have any questions about your coverage, please don’t hesitate to check in with our team.
Transparent, Open Access Care
Even if we are out-of-network with your vision plan, you still receive the same great care. As an Open Access Practice, we offer:
- Personalized, quality care
- Help with out-of-network reimbursement
- Prompt-pay and upfront payment discounts
- Good faith estimates for self-pay patients
You are always welcome to request a cost estimate before booking your appointment.

Medical Insurance vs. Vision Plans
We understand insurance can be confusing. Here’s a simple breakdown:

Your Payment Options
We accept a variety of payment methods to make your visit easy:
- Cash or check
- Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express (note: 3.5% card processing fee applies)
- CareCredit
- HSA and FSA funds
You can use your HSA or FSA for:
- Medical eye exams
- Prescription glasses or contact lenses
- Vision therapy
- Myopia control treatments such as ortho-k
- Dry eye interventional treatments such as LLLT and IPL
Have questions about costs or coverage? Our front desk team is happy to help. Clear answers with no surprises is how we operate at North Shore Eye.

What Patients Are Saying
My daughter came in with complaints of cloudy vision. Every person we encountered was friendly and professional. I could tell my daughter was comfortable during every test throughout her visit. Dr. assured both of us that her complaint was nothing to worry about!
Relieved and happy with our experience here!

As a new patient, I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect.
My previous experiences had been with large chain eye centers and those experiences were hit or miss. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at North Shore Eye. They were friendly and thorough with their examinations and Dr. Ross was extremely
knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend!

Extremely knowledgeable, has flexible hours that have allowed me to go in after work. Very prompt in his
responses and overall very friendly environment.

The most up to date equipment with the most personal care from any optometrist I’ve ever gotten. I would recommend him to anybody who has a complex prescription and hasn’t had good luck with other doctors.
Geoff R.
Dr. Ross and staff were very helpful. When I had a terrible eye infection, Dr. Ross evaluated my eye, prescribed me the proper meds, and scheduled a follow-up to make sure everything was going as expected. Overall, I was very impressed with the level of care and would recommend North Shore to anyone who needs to see an optometrist.
